doo-wop

a lazy sunday afternoon. that's what my whole weekend felt like even though it was surprisingly productive. callum and i worked on a new song which should be online this week.

tomorrow (tuesday, may 31) we'll be joining meghan morrison on her weekly webcast that features local toronto musicians. we'll be playing a couple songs and talking about upcoming projects. you can tune in around 8pm here, or check out the video that will be posted soon after.

a smoking gun.

i know the first thing out of everyone's mouth is that smoking is a disgusting, horrible, life-threatening habit. i don't want to hear it. sometimes there is just something so cool and so rock-and-roll when i see someone smoking, especially strikingly-good-looking celebrities. you can hate on me all you want, you're preaching to the wrong girl.

don't think about making art, just get it done. (goal one - get a sewing machine)

lately i've felt like i have too many ideas floating around in my head, yet nothing ever gets done. everything was at a stand still. last night, taking the advice of an extremely wise beyond his years boyfriend of mine, i jotted down twenty goals i would like to complete within a one year period. having those aspirations and desires written down in front of me made them feel real and more achievable. we then went through the list and determined which ones i could cross off quickly... and i am happy to say that i've just checked my first one off the list. when i moved away from home i had no choice but to leave my sewing machine behind (as it is my moms and i don't think she would have been fond of me nicking it) and i've been nagging myself ever since to pick up my own. i used to love repurposing pieces from vintage clothing and creating new bags from discarded fabrics. so let's see what disasters i am bound to create, i'll be sure to post any pictures along the way.

one down, nineteen to go.

a very merry unbirthday party

the always brilliant and super thoughtful callum threw me a 'theme-surprise' birthday party last year, and when i walked into the room i was blow away at his attention to detail. complete with tea cups, clocks, painted roses, and unmarked drink me bottles, i really was alice in wonderland. he even picked me up an alice costume which you can laugh at in the photo above. if you want to throw your own alice in wonderland themed party, all you need is a big table, some teacups (not your best china preferably), some white labels so you can slap some hearts or spades on whatever strikes your fancy, all the clocks in your house, a deck of cards scattered around the room, and some red and white streamers for fun. he also picked up some fake white roses from the dollar store and went to town with a red sharpie. good job callum!

the 27 club

i found another gem last night on netflix (actually callum found it, i apparently cannot be trusted to choose movies as they always turn out horribly disturbing or all around god-awful). it's called 'the 27 club' and it stars joe anderson (across the universe, control, the crazies). the plot is based around elliot, the surviving member of the band finn after his best friend / band mate commits suicide just a week after his twenty-seventh birthday, and his drug-infused, cross-country trip across the usa.

the movie takes reference from the forever 27 club, which is a group of rock superstars who all died at the young and tender age of 27. this group includes the likes of jim morrison, janis joplin, jimi hendrix, brian jones, and kurt cobian.

touchy subject matter, but a fantastic movie. check out the trailer below.

the daily nail

i'm not usually one to partake in anything other than the regular two coats of black nail polish,
but when i saw this (and how easy it was) i knew what i would be doing this weekend.

** instructions **

{one} put on nail polish and let dry (i'll being doing a grey base coat).

{two} dip fingernail in alcohol, basically any will do, vodka is suggested.

{three} press a strip of newspaper on to your alcohol soaked nail.

{four} pull off slowly and be really impressed with yourself.

{five} paint top coat if desired.

easy as pie. i'll post some pics of how they turn out.

i've been thinking about getting a tattoo for some time now, but i haven't been able to
figure out for the life of me what I want. i found these inspiration shots (my fav being the first one)
and i am almost 95% sure i want it on both of my wrists and i'm 75% sure i want a black sparrow.
